There are several closet-related projects that can fill time and if you have good crap, make you some money! When I am doing a good closet re-org I prefer to take EVERYTHING out of it. I then restock it first by frequency of use, then by type of item and then color. I really like it when things are color coordinated within those other little groups. It makes me feel bourgeoisie even though I only have like 15 things in my closet. Anyway, here are some tips on how to make a day of reinventing your closet.
- DRY CLEAN EVERYTHING: I think this is a really good idea because you never know when you'll want to wear a sassy dress to a Tuesday matinee. I don't know about you but I have an item or two that I don't dry clean after each use and perhaps those things have weird smelling pits. Or maybe not, just a thought.
- ADDRESS YOUR SHOES: If you don't wear them and if they are not beautiful pieces of art, get rid of them. There are certain items that bring down the overall awesomeness of your collection. If they are yucky and can be fixed, take them to a shoe fixer.
- GET GOOD HANGERS: The nice-ish plastic ones with hooks and spots for holding your strappy items are cheap. Personally, I HATE wire hangers, mommy dearest.
- If you have a lot of good stuff that you simply have no use for, sell them. If you're like me and can't stand the rejection that happens when the preteen at Crossroads denies the purchase of your treasures, CREATE AN EBAY STORE. There are websites that provide tutorials on how to do this. You can market it on your Facebook page, via email to your friends across the country and through the blog you now have time to create.
So, now that you have a streamlined and clean closet space, you can fill it back up again with cheap treasures you discover on thrift store missions. I haven't been a dedicated thrifter since I turned about 25, but I think it's a hobby worth revisiting. Recession-chic.
